The
story of Primm, Nevada:
 |
Back when Highway 91 was the only road going through the Primm area and it was
barely passable, nothing marked this spot but a ramshackle gas station known
as Whiskey Pete's. The proprietor, Pete McIntyre, was an old miner and a
cantankerous bastard, historians say.
Whiskey Pete
sold gas, but there wasn't a whole lot of traffic then, so he relied on
bootlegging to earn his real money and the classic name.
This is the finish line
for the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge.
Some of the race
route runs just past Pete's first resting place.
